Comprehensive and Holistic National Security

Comprehensive and Holistic National Security

Leader: Dr. KRS Murthy: Has extensive experience in all aspects covered in this strategy document. He has established strategic alliance partnerships with world’s leading experts, companies and supply chain. He has authored and lectured on these topics in international conferences.

IMPORTANT ISSUES AND SOLUTIONS:

1.      The strategy, especially at national level, can’t afford to be fragmented, as any weak link in the security implementation, is sacrificial of all other parts of the implementation, with threat piercing the gaping hole in the system.
2.     India faces internal threats, as much as external threats.
3.     Both physical security and cyber security should be equally considered, as inherently and essentially one affects the other like a “double headed dragon”
4.     Even countries like USA and China with high levels of security implementation have been attacked both at physical and cyber levels.
5.     For example, energy industry and infrastructure could suffer outages and resultant economic disasters for a country, all caused by cyber security, thus impacting national infrastructure / physical vulnerabilities.
6.     Data centers, cloud infrastructure, major and minor fiber routes, telecom Central Offices (CO) and Network Operations Centers (NOC) are examples of single location targets for security invaders.
7.     In the digital world century, even banks, energy generation centers, natural gas and electric transmission grids are only examples of a big list to be secured, and secured comprehensively.
8.     Smart grid, when implemented, is a “double edged sword”
9.     In general, internet infrastructure, which is inherently made up of both wireline (fiber and copper) and wireless equipment and assets, in which wireless is susceptable and vulnrable to attacks.
10.   While all civilians / citizens are enjoying the fun of various social cyber platforms, they will have sacrificed all their rights, before entering the “heavenly pleasures” of sharing photos, videos and personal data, not even realizing that they have indeed entered the “hell of predatory hawks”. Examples are mobile apps, facebook, twitter and youtube, among numerous platforms taking birth every day and month.
11.    Biological and chemical security, not even existent in India, should be urgently addressed. Rivers, lakes, oceans, food supply, agricultural lands, gardens, pharmaceutical supplies, hospitals, schools, businesses and common citizens would be affected by airborne and water borne biological, chemical and nuclear waste threats from terrorists and wars. Sensor networks embedded in all listed threat targets is vital.
12.   Extensive sensor networks all across the nation, including borders, sea and air access paths into India are vital using Internet of Every Thing (IET) and wireless sensor networks (WSN).
13.  Natural and terrorist inflicted disaster response in routing, scalability, control and post mortem of the disaster preparedness.
14.   Nano and micro materials research in India should include security and safety aspects of application.
15.   National assets and iconic buildings, statues and religious centers have been completely neglected as assets to be secured in India, when compromised could cause a meltdown of moral, emotional and societal fabric of India.
16.   India should establish centers of vigilance, centers of R&D excellence, centers of security and hacker training schools, hiring the best and the brightest.
17.   India should conduct security hacker events, competitions, even attracting international cyber hackers to lecture, demonstrate and train a high caliber “ cyber black belt” “cyber soldiers” to the extent of making India the best in the world.
18.   Israel, China, USA and Russia are some of the countries to court and induct expertise for India “cyber solders”
19.   ALL components and parts, systems and networks, all software and installation, operation and maintenance in ALL aspects of both physical and cyber security SHOULD come from domestic supply chain, with routine vigilance / quality control by national security team of experts.
20.   Safety and security conferences, lectures, summits and caucuses should be organized to create awareness in all citizens.
21.   KRS Murthy has closely worked with companies and experts in the different cyber and physical security areas listed in the document.

Comprehensive and Holistic Security Strategy should cover the following:

1. Cyber Security - Which are actually made up of multiple levels to include internet infrastructure, data centers, telecom centers, cloud, high sped links,
2.     National Assets Security: Buildings, Perimeter of Buildings, National Borders, Stand Alone Assets like Statues, National Icons,  and Building Perimeter
3.     National Event Security
4.     Port Security
5.     Air Space Security
6.     Sea and Naval Space Security
7.     Civilian Security
8.     VIP Security
9.     Energy infrastructure security
10.   Security of financial institutions
11.    Food supply chain security
12.   Chemical and biological threats and security solutions
